INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN - ASSIGNMENT 2.2

For this assignment, we were inspired by our furniture from the previous project, we were now to design a lighting masterpiece that would compliment the design.

Start with a BASE DESIGN (of basic form) that apply and best translate your keywords and formal organization.

Draft ~~

Base model ~~

NEXT, we were to further develop 3-Dimensional design through series of transformation in response to a specific set of conditions without a loss of identity and design language.

STEP 1: POSITION / ATTACHMENT
Our masterpiece should be lifted from the ground applying at least one of these conditions: centilivered, suspended, mounted, hanging, parasite.

Step 1 Draft

Step 1  Model

STEP 2: PHYSICAL ALTERATION
Transformation consideration: Addition, Substraction & multiplication.
Keywords: twisted, rotated, folded, morph, split, envelop, expanded etc.
The design language should remain as per our base model.

Step 2 Draft

Step 2 Model

STEP 3: DESIGN VARIATION
Adding in rhythm, repetition and treatment of the design plane from solid to skeletal to enhance its aesthetic value.
Consider the best possible design that would enhance the lighting and the shadow it’ll cast.

Step 3 Draft

Step 3 Model

FINAL – FORM & FUNCTION
Final model of our lighting design (max 3 LEDs) and ONE A2 presentation board of our design exploration and process.

INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN - PROJECT 2

PROJECT 2(A)

This was my first group assignment in university. And I was fortunate enough to be the group leader of this group (GROUP 3).This made me stressful because uni was still very new to me but on the other hand made me wanted to do everything perfectly.

From Left to Right : ELLYN, FARIS, HEATHER and ROYCE (me)
The chair we did was Chair_One

We took one week to finish the mahjong paper. In the mahjong paper, we were to explain about our furniture (Chair_One) and some basic information about the designer, Konstantin Grcic.

Mahjong Paper ~~

After we had done researching. We were then to produce a scale 1:10 model of the actual design to showcase por understanding to the scale and proportion.

1:10 scale model

We had quite a whale of time during the process of model making. I also had learnt the importance of teamwork as well as the responsibility to be a leader of a team. I had learnt a lot of values in this project.

PROJECT 2(B)

For the individual work of this project, everyone was to quick sketch 3 different views of the given furniture in pencils.

Details :
View 1: Add human figure to show the proportion
View 2: Identify its formal organization
View 3: List 3 suitable keywords

The formal organisation that i discoverd was CENTRALISED
(A number of secondary forms clustered about a dominant, centrak parent-form)

The 3 keywords were GEOMETRICAL SHAPE, STRAIGHT LINE, FOOTBALL PATTERN

INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN - Assignment 1(b)

THREE DETAIL ACTIVITIES

Chilling on sofa ~~

Eating ~~

Brushing ~~

This assignment was a real challenge to me.

These three activities were pick from Assignment 1(a). For this assignment, we were required to draw the top view and the side view of the activities that I chose. And we were needed to think of 5 different postures with the furniture that I was using during that particular activity. You can see some of the alternative postures are weird. YEAH no judging, this is creativity. HAHA

And do you remember that I mentioned this assignment was challenging? The reason was we had to draw according to the 1:20 scale by using scale ruler. This took me quite a lot of time but it helped me to understand the ways of using scale ruler.

Every hard work will pay off. I will never give up on improving my drawing skill as well as enhancing my creativity. NEVER GIVE UP

INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN - Assignment 1(a)

TWELVES DAILY ACTIVITIES

My Drawing ~~

This is the very first assignment I got after I enrolled into University.

The tittle for this assignment is 12 Daily Activities. Lectures told us to create a new tittle as we are design students. So after I searched and figured out for a suitable and attracting tittle, in the end what I got is LIVE AND PLAY. And we were required to draw 12 activities with the right postures.
In this assignment, I have learnt what is architectural letteringAnd I have to improve my drawing on human figures as you can see my figures in this drawing are too animated which do not look real. Also, lecturers told me that my tittle is way too big  and my architectural lettering have to be improved as the letters did not meet the two construction lines.
Well, I guess I have long way to go. KEEP FIGHTING
