COMMUNITY SERVICE INITIATIVE

Group 6: Pre + Post  + Logistic

In this module, we have more than 100 of students participating and separate into 6 groups. I've been allocate to Group 6, which is doing Photos, Video, Montage, Website, Promotion & Logistic.

As I know video editing，so I've been assigned to do Video & Montage

Reflection:
So far, my group members have discussed about the tasks of each person,  I've been assigned to make video and montage as I'm the only group member that know video editing. For the video making, I will get my camera ready from time to time as I need to capture the progression of this project. The moments that I will capture are stated above. I have confident that I can handle this task and come out with a good quality of video documentary. For the montage making, I am looking forward to explore and improve my skill in story telling in the form of video which able to deliver the message of empathy feeling towards Orang Asli.

I have designed a logo for our Voluntary Project. This logo symbolising the spirit of volunteering services of us towards the community. The hands represents 6 groups of us, each volunteering different tasks to help rebuilding and enhancing their mini library to create a comfortable learning environment in order to develop reading habits among the Orang Asli.

Reflection:

After weeks of contributing our time for doing this community service ( Rebuilding of Orang Asli Library), it's finally came to an end and the outcome is so satisfying and unexpectedly nice. I feel blessed that I have an opportunity to take part in this group project and team up with amazing people to do my task. I also learned many things from seniors and teammates, like the way they do their jobs, the way they handle problems and many more. I hope this community service module enable the participants to evoke the empathy towards Orang Asli so that our community will be more harmony.

The condition of the site is below the bar. The mini library was constructed by Yayasan Salam in 2017, it was built for the Orang Asli Kids so that they have a study place to learn and gain their knowledge. Due to lacking of maintenance, the place is now in bad conditions, and we met a big challenge is that the Orang Asli Kids do not like to read because they don't even know how to read. Hence, the mini library has lost its purpose.

After Site Visit, Exploration and Measurement, I decided to design a Reading Activity Hub for kids & Restaurant embedded with Orang Asli culture. The Reading Activity Hub was planned to build wihtin the existing mini library to develop reading habits among the Orang Asli Kids so that they can gain some knowledge. While The Restaurant was created by adding few containers which attaching the existing mini library to attract tourists that desired to experience the Orang Asli culture. By servicing tourists, the Orang Asli able to earn some living to improve their quality of life and they are giving the chance to know more about the world outside their kampung. It also will create a  phenomena that the Orang Asli will start to do their business by selling their merchandise, talents, and others. Soon, it will make the kampung become a tourist attraction.




Concept: Synergism

Definition: 
The interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.


This concept is derived from the structure of bamboo. The Bamboo is so strong is because the structure of the bamboo is made up of bunch and fiber and arrange in order, so I derived the concept from the structure of bamboo which is Synergism, which also can mean teamwork.

Conceptual Model

So, in my design, I'm going to apply synergism concept by combining 2 components into 1 object. For example, a seating bench, by applying the concept, I would separate the bench in few components such as bench top, bench legs and bench backing, each components I would design to ensure three components able to match with each other so that the overall outcome would look marvellous, and the it should achieve the effect that each component must not separate otherwise the bench would look like lacking of something if removing one of the components.



Reflection:
For this project, I'm looking forward to the final outcome of this project because I have came out a concept that is existing which is synergism. Many people might unfamiliar with this term, due to less usage of this word. It basically means combining of 2 components into 1 and becoming better in effects. In other word, teamwork. So, with this concept, I'm going to experiment a lot to make the space looks like a piece of artwork that perfectly mix and match with the structure, furniture, finishings and so on. In this project, I'm more to learn how to extract a concept and derived concept to the space. Thus, I'm excited what's effect that gonna come out at the end.




Assignment 2

For assignment 2, we were to create a reading area for the orang asli kids. This is due to during the site visit, we noticed the esxisting mini library on site is not well utilise by the kids. The condition of the library is bad and the books arrangement  are messy. After knowing the causes of these situation, we know that the kids are not interested in reading and they do not aware the importance of reading. So this reading space that I designed is to create more interesting and fun space for the kids to let them have interest in reading and to develop reading habits among them. I broke away from traditional library layout and turn it into a 28m2 asymmetrical layout (which is requirement). I used bamboo to design this space because bamboo plays an important role in their daily life. And the seating area is special designed according to kids reading behaviours. Instead of a quiet library, I hope the kids would see this space as playground.
